Geriatric Mental Health
With funding received from the North West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), CERAH delivers education, training, resources and support to caregivers and professionals serving older adults with mental health needs. The program works collaboratively with a variety of other programs and services.
The geographic boundary of LHIN 14 include the districts of Thunder Bay and Kenora-Rainy River.
Since the inception of the project in 1994, the Centre has developed and delivered various educational initiatives. Some examples of these include:
- annual Geriatric Mental Health Institute
- "ABC's of Dementia Care: Incorporating U-First Principles" (this 8 week module is developed for long-term care facilities)
- "Aging in Place: Supporting Older Adults with Developmental Disabilities" (this 4 week module is developed for caregivers supporting older adults with developmental disabilities)
- Geriatric Grand Rounds (a monthly videoconference on geriatric concerns, delivered in collaboration with the Ontario Telehealth Network and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine)
