Palliative Care Alliance Launches National Toolkit - Monday, Jan. 20

A new palliative care toolkit is being launched in Thunder Bay that will be relevant to people across Canada.

The toolkit includes resources to develop a palliative care program that will be unique to the long term care setting and context.

This framework and toolkit are the first of its kind in Canada and one of the few developed internationally. Long Term Care (LTC) homes across Canada can use this toolkit to improve quality of life and end of life care for the 20 per cent of residents who die in LTC each year.

It was developed by the Quality Palliative Care in Long-Term Care Alliance based at Lakehead University's Centre for Education and Research on Aging & Health. The launch is being done in partnership with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association.

The research for Improving the Quality of Life for People Dying in Long-Term Care Homes was funded by a Social Science and Humanities Research Council 2009-2013 through the Community University Research Alliance.

A webinar launch of this toolkit will take place on Monday, Jan. 20 from noon - 1 pm.
