School of Nursing Hosts Pilot Project - Dying with Grace

Last week, Lakehead University’s School of Nursing hosted an innovative pilot project, Dying with Grace. This interprofessional education initiative (IPE) brought together palliative and end-of-life care providers to share current information, facilitate knowledge transfer, and participate in team building.

Kristen Jones, from the School of Nursing and Kathy Kortes-Miller from the Palliative Care Certificate Program, developed and facilitated this IPE experience for 10 members of the hospice team from St. Joseph’s Care Group (SJCG), with funding provided by NOSM. Community partners for this event included Linda Pisco, Education Planner, CERAH; Marianne Larson, Manager, Hospice Unit; and Dr. Geoff Davis, Medical Director for Palliative Care, SJCG.

The IPE experience, positively received by the hospice team, highlights the potential that simulation technology holds for education, particularly interprofessional experiences that establish important links between Lakehead University and the community.
