CERAH Conference: Aging Across the Life Cycle a Huge Success!

The 2025 CERAH Conference: Aging Across the Life Cycle brought together 300 delegates from across Canada and beyond for two days of learning, connection, and inspiration.

From the opening plenary by André Picard and Dr. Pamela Williamson, whose insights on the future of aging and health care set a powerful tone, to the thought-provoking presentations by Laura Tamblyn Watts, Dr. Christopher Mushquash, Dr. Mark Lachmann, Nancy Angus, Dr. Kelli Sajduhar, and Dr. Holly Prince, each speaker offered unique perspectives that challenged and inspired us to think differently about aging, care, and community.

Throughout the conference, delegates experienced a true “third space,” a place where Western approaches and Indigenous knowledges came together in meaningful co-creation and shared learning. The presence of Elder Beatrice Twance-Hynes and Elder Aaron Therriault brought cultural grounding, ceremony, and spirit to the event.

The poster presentations highlighted innovative research and community initiatives, with Ryan Iwanicki of Lakehead University receiving first place for his engaging student poster, and Jei Chen of the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan as runner-up.

Engaging concurrent sessions, lively exhibitor booths, and some good ol’ fashioned retail therapy (thanks to some talented Indigenous artists) enriched the entire experience.

We were also pleased to host an evening community event, “MAiD: Options & Opportunities at End of Life” with moderator André Picard and an expert panel. More than 150 community members attended this important discussion, reflecting strong local interest in end-of-life conversations and choice.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all presenters, delegates, volunteers, and partners who helped make this year’s conference such a success. Together we are creating space for new conversations and shared understandings, and shaping the future of aging and health in Canada.
