Building the Circle of Care: Education for Providers Supporting Indigenous Community Caregivers – Ottawa

In partnership with the Champlain Hospice Palliative Care Program, Lakehead University’s Centre for Education and Research on Aging & Health (CERAH) is pleased to offer in-person education to health and social care providers working within the Champlain region.

About:

This 7-hour course introduces key palliative care concepts, tools, and resources from the Walking Alongside Indigenous Peoples who are Seriously Ill curriculum. Participants will gain practical skills to better support and educate community and family caregivers.

Learning highlights include:

  • Refresher on the palliative approach to care
  • Guided overview and hands-on use of the Walking Alongside resource suite
  • Introduction to the Indigenous Family & Community Caregiver Journey Manual—from understanding illness and planning next steps to daily caregiving and supporting quality of life through end of life
